How to Plan a Trip
How to Plan a Trip: the excursions, add-ons, & the activities
These are important because they ensure that you won’t miss out on anything while you’re on holiday. Planning these before you leave home will avoid disappointment and heartache!
Great advice if you’re on holiday and short of time, and on a budget:
- Ask yourself the basic questions : What, Where,When, and How? You can always tweak your itinerary when you’re there.
- Treat the add-ons in the same way as you would your transport and your accommodation.
Here’s my sad tale – it was quite a while ago and I didn’t know how to plan a trip as well as I though I did:
I achieved my childhood dream to get to Bolivia and then to Tiwanaku after a long time waiting!
So I was excited to get there. The altitude was a problem so I spent a frustrating 3 days acclimatizing. The only way I could relieve my pounding headache was by tying a scarf very tightly round my head. That worked, but not much. In the end the chemist sold me pills and I was finally ready to make the trip to Tiwanaku.
However, my woes didn’t end there. The tour agency in the centre of La Paz was extremely busy. I was with friends and we found ourselves at the back of quite a queue. So annoyingly that was another whole morning wasted!
Then we were told that the next available trip was in 3 days time! This was not convenient, as we had arranged a go to Lake Titicaca!
Then the trip was very expensive, much more than we had budgeted for. The people on the mini bus had bought their tickets in advance before they left for Bolivia. They had paid far less than I, and were able to make proper plans because they knew exactly when they would be in Tiwanaku.
Clearly I was not prepared! So book before you leave is my mantra.

Urban Adventures can do this because they have local guides with inside information, and they will take you to places that ordinary tourists don’t know about. It’s like being with a local friend! Here as an example are a couple of very interesting tours in La Paz.
You can book add-on trips, tours, and many different activities to your travel plans, some last a few hours, others a few days, but all of them will really enhance your holiday experience. Take my advice.
