All inclusive Family Holidays
The Field Studies Council have been providing schools in the UK with outdoor adventures for over 70 years, and now they have expanded and created Real Family Holidays to cater for families during the school holidays.
They provide affordable activity holidays that have lots of free time woven into them so that you can have fun being active as well as take time out just to chill with your family and soak in the peace of being in the forest, on the beach or in beautiful open countryside.
Their centres are based around the UK and they include amazing places like the Highlands and islands of Scotland, Northern Ireland, the breathtaking beauty of the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District of England, to the beautiful and rugged coastline of Cornwall.
The wonderful thing about this company is that it opens up it’s facilities for school trips during the term to families during the holidays.
Holidays during school holidays are notoriously expensive as people take advantage of the fact that we all just have that 6 week window. But this company has managed to keep their costs down to about £20 pp per night, an this includes your own private family room, all linen, and 3 three delicious cooked meals per day. That’s a bargain!
The centres are wonderful too, and they have 12 to choose from. For example you can stay at a converted 150 year old fortress in Pembrokeshire, Wales, which is a very exciting prospect in itself! All the centres are in rural places surrounded by beauty.
Another good thing is that you don’t have to stay for an entire week. But you do have to book early because the places fill up very quickly. I have tried booking a place for myself but have had no luck. You have to keep checking for places to become available. But it’s worth it!
They are in the process of adding activities and prices to their website. However I contacted them with a few questions and I got a very nice email telling me that no activity is compulsory because after all we will be on holiday. Also the activities are free if they are the first activity you do on that day, and if it’s not, then they cost £4.00 pp. These include things like, rock pooling and building a campfire, orienteering and creating beach art. So the cheapest activity is £4.00 pp and the most expensive is £6.50 pp, with the exception of rafting which is £8.50 pp. The date of these prices is March 2015.
I have done a lot of research and have found activity centres that are a lot more expensive than this and then also charge a fortune for their activities. I like this company. Click on the banner of the side of this page for their website.
